New York Fashion Week

By far the best round up
of New York Fashion Week!

This well written NY Fashion week roundup from the Guardian´s Fashion Statement just landed in my email to my great amusement:

Fashion statement: Ten things we learnt in New YorkFor a unique take on the world of fashion, sign up to the Guardian's fashion email and get all the latest news delivered straight to your inbox

FASHION DILEMMA
Written by:Kate Carter guardian.co.uk, Friday 17 September 2010 14.05 BST Article history

Ten things we learnt from New York fashion week.

1. The seventies are back
Marc Jacobs started it all off, as fashion editor Jess Cartner-Morley noted:
Glamorous, full-sleeved peasant blouses were worn with maxiskirts, while long, sheer dresses in the colours of a Moroccan sunset were topped with frizzed Biba hair and heavily dark-rimmed eyes. Dramatically flared trousers were worn high at the waist and sweeping low almost to the floor, revealing half an inch of the gold glittery platforms beneath. A shiny satin jean-style jacket in pumpkin was worn over purple silk dungarees.

But not everyone is happy about it:

"Crimped frizzy hair and high heels are for the catwalk, obviously, but in real life, women don't go for it. And, as for wedges: they're just not sexy - Kate Moss, among others, knows this: have you ever seen a picture of her in wedges?" - Comment on our live blog by mazza1

2. If you want publicity, ban the press
Tom Ford's debut womenswear collection was supposed to be a totally picture-free zone. But within days fashionista.com was reporting a leak of the photos, complete with mug shots of all the models - resembling nothing so much as the result of an extremely stylish police raid.

3. Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue is on twitter, and her musings will make you wise

Either generated by an automatic aphorism generator or by a hapless assistant whose sole job is to empty Chinese fortune cookies and open vintage Hallmark cards, it includes priceless tokens of wisdom such as:
Be unique, because you are different.. but don't be different for the sake of being unique.
Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it

4. Being fashionably late is no longer fashionable
Fashion shows have begun to start, shock horror, on time! No one told Courtney Love, however, who missed half of Marc Jacobs' show. Afterwards Ms Love spotted Hilary Alexander of the Telegraph wearing a Pearl Lowe for Peacocks black dress with a cream collar and was heard by Jess Cartner-Morley to exclaim: "Great dress! So me-in-the-90s!"

5. Jason Wu gets excited about owls that say "wu, wu"
Make of that what you will.

6. Beige is out
Camel - get your coat. Caramel - take a hike. New York was popping with colour. Delft blues, bright yellows, pinks, golds, coral... Just not beige, ok? Black is OK, but only if you are a real fashionista.

7. Bengal tiger is the new leopard
Leopards around the world breath a sigh of relief, while Bengal tigers hope that their fashion moment will raise awareness of their status on the endangered list.

8. Green is the new black
The Edun collection - designed by Ali Hewson (aka Mrs Bono) took to the catwalk, using organic and ethical "where possible". Fashion Statement raised an eyebrow. Where possible? The Green Shows proved time and time again that it's always possible to make beautiful clothes using environmentally-sound materials. FS particularly loved Auralis Herrero, who picked up on the current nostalgic mood with a 70s-inspired collection of flowing drapery in hemp, organic cotton, soy jersey and peace silk, in colours ranging from a muted denim-blue to vibrant orange. There were little dresses, maxi dresses and the odd jump suit, all with a slight original-Halston vibe.

9. Dogs are very spring/summer 2011
Feline fanciers, bad news - canine chic is where it's at. From the pooch who took a bow at the opening show - Nicholas K - to the Mulberry-clad one strolling around the pool at their rooftop show, mutts are having a moment.

10. FS needs more caffeine than the Big Apple can provide
There is nowhere in New York to get a decent cup of tea. Nowhere. Please New York, sort it out.

Looks like Fashion week

Favorite Looks from the Fashion Weeks of Fall 2010

The honest fact is that we don´t usually tend to copy the looks of hair and makeup directly from the runway. They are often too extreme and serve more as an effect to go with the clothes.
We do let them inspire us, and as journalists we take out some color schemes to guide our readers, but the real beauty trends are made through the fashion spreads and of street-stylers. So when you come down to it, the power of beauty-looks is still very much up for grabs (which is great!)
However, this season there are actually several looks I would love to copy "as it is" as well as modefy them into my own style. You usually only get the typical "5 looks of the season", but come on- you need more looks then that, so I give you:

" 20 looks of the season!"

givenchy

It´s the deep read lips together with the pale skin and pink eyes (instead if the original eyeliner) that makes this look so porcelin and sensitive, The hair loosly tucked away in the back is also one of the surest hair trends for fall. Let the front gently caress your cheek.

Jill Stuart

The smokey eye paired up with an angled eyeliner, but leaving the inner cornes with a light and shiny eyeshadow. Flawless skin with peachy-pink cheaks and same colored lipgloss. The look almost gets a little juvenile and has a good mix between tough and innocent. Especially when it is paired up with this seasons layerd knits to get that cleaner version of grunge.

Alexander Wang

He gave us the biggest hair trend of summer 2010 ( the loose side braid, most likely inspired from Fried Green Tomatoes) and as far as every hair stylist doing fashion spreads these days are concerned, he´s done it again. You cannot open a magazine anywhere in the world right now without seeing a wet side-do. check it! Togeteher with the humid burgundy eyes and covered yet steamy skin, it also gives that though yet soft look.

Aquascutum

It´s the pretty makeup how pretty makeup should be. Flawless, yet shiny skin (mineral products) peachy-rose cheaks. Shiny light-yellow base for eyes, with brown/taupe over the globe and angled out. Gently shaped eyebrows in the same color as your own roots. Natural toned lipliner shape the lips, while a peachy-rose gloss lifts it. The hair is volumed on top, and gives an illusion that there were once curls in this hair. This looks makes everyone a notch prettier than they are.

Balmain
It may not look like much, but the art of creating a look of just lights and shadows is truely a masterpiece. The bleachy hair, with the shaped brows and schizzled cheaks. So simple, so good.

Bluemarine

The smokey eye will always be a favorite, especially for fall. This version where the smoke stays under the eyes and reaches out on the sides maskeraded as an eyeline, gives the look a modern twist and is not quit so heavy. leave the upper lid light or bright in viberant color.

Bottega Venetta

It´s the hair! You don´t have to shave your sides off anymore, go punk for one day simply by the use of heavy gel- and pull that sidepart way forward!

it´s the eyes as well! the Dark eyes reaches a new level of texture and layers with this liquid eyeliner along the lashline together with a sweap of graphic shaped brown/grey over the upper lid. Leave the brows and lips for a dramatic look.

dolce & gabbana

The dirty red lips, with the cut off eyeline and the light eyes must  be one of the surest looks this fall. Let the hair be messy down, or as here in an loose updo. Do shape the brows in light shades for a sensitive look or in a darker shade for a rock´n version.

Dries Van Noten

The simples of them all: pale skin, normal lips, sunglasses and hair tucked away in the back. Works wonders with a Fjellraeven wind jacket, camel coat and of course the shearling aviator jacket ala burberry prorsum.

Fendi

Ahh...the Teddy! Now, I´m not saying this hair do is very easy to do, but with a couple of tries and errors, you´ll get the hang of it. It´s basically about rolling your hair inwards and placing it with pins. A 50s makeup would be an obvious choice, so I would rather go natural or smokey.

Givenchy

The street-hair-look of the season. You will be seing this. Alot. And even if you don´t particulary care for it right now, by september you will have worn it once

Gucci
Easy and to the point. The smallest version of a smokey eye, just rigt at the rims of the lashes, with an eyeline angle to keep up with the trends. Flawless and highlighted skin, and just a touch of rosy-peach to the lips. Well done.

Isabel Mirant

She really did hit the jack-pot with her 50s interpritatons that go beyond waisted dresses and long sleeved gloves. The makeup couldn´t be more to the point either with its long and angled eyeliner. A true make up of fall 2010. Leave everything else.

Just Cavalli

red lips and 70´s hair- the perfect mix. pale skin of course and shaded bonestructure, including brows.

Kenzo
Floting on a late summer breeze much? but it sure is pretty and the peachy tones in makeup just keeps coming and coming. With all the right to do so as well, just look at the light it brings to the face!

Louis Vuitton

The makeup that is definatly alot of makeup but doesn´t really look like it has got to be the most frequent used techniques of any fashion week. Why? because it´s just so pretty, but still exiting for the makeup artist to do, because you have to be extremly thoughtful in you blending and coloring. The look that simple poolishes the skin color, builds the bonestructure, caresses the eyeshape and enlightens the glow. Perfection! The pony-tail will also see its revival this season- stay tuned!

Michael Kors

Michael always does pretty, but his collection really does set the tone for the trends we see and wear. This makeup look is as normal as you can get it with flawless skin, bronzy cheaks and smokey eyes with a hint of blue. However, the twist that still makes this look so interesting is the pony-tail. Its all about fluffy, loose, and backcomes hair this season, so why not introduce that into your pony-tail as well!

3.1 Philip Lim

This hair is the perfect wavy and fluffy fall hair, paird up with happy pink lips and aviator glasses for that hint of 70´s- easy and ready to wear!

The Row

Bleached fluffy hair and pale skin- it´s just a winner!

Tibi

But this is ultimatly my favorite look to wear everyday all through fall 2010 and way into winter 2011. the soft curly hear with a somewhat round shape. the flawless skin only gained by mineral makeup. The cold pink cheaks and subtle smoked eyes with an angled eyeliner for that hint of exitement. I love it and I will wear it!

Love,
Tove

Lace.....

"I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature; lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin."

Jesse James is a fucking..

IDIOT

Ok, I swear I will never feature much celebrity gossip or paparazzi slurs, but this smock just really has me in pieces with his talentless decisions. Not only were you married to a (seamably) extremely devoted, caring, intelligent and beautiful Sandra Bullock. A woman that took on the care of your children as they were her own, after you had to fight the custody of your porn-star ex-wife, but The Oscar winning actress had also just sign papers with you to receive your much wanted adopted baby.

The world was really rooting for you guys. Finally, something seemed genuine, easy, calm and sane. Sandra would share her thoughts on the family and love with ease, as the most natural thing and something she worked really hard for and respected. And you would gaze at her with love at every red carpet event.

And what do you do?

You get the highly contagious decease that seems to be hitting most Hollywood/sport/money men these days: SEX ADDICTION.

Come the fuck on!

Yes, we all know that the mail race have a biological urge/instinct to spread their sperm and populate the earth, but we also know that there is a possibility of control. Of knowing the different between right and wrong, respect and unselfish decisions.

So that didn´t happen..

Jesse just couldn´t fathom that the life he had with his happy wife and kids, would one day collide with the orgies he had with he´s tattoo girlfriends, porn stars and various tramps. Not once did it occur to him that he would hurt and damage his wife and kids, and be separated because of this urge/instinct.

But he was soooo sorry

Afterwards, Jesse James admitted flat to everything, rolling in his apologies, understanding Sandra Bullock for wanting to leave her, but hoping that they would reconcile.

So why the fuck are you dating KAT von D!

Dude....seriously...your both idiots. Kat von D, which is a cool cat- COME ON! You just fucked Sandra over back in April- that´s 5 months ago! WHEN did you have time do fall in love with Kat von D while you were supposedly picking up the pieces of your family? And Kat- I won´t assume that you think things will be different with you, I am hoping that you understand and agree with the fact that Jesse will probably never change. But, do you really want to be moving straight into the arms of someone so clearly just searching for love and orgies at the same time? We are women, and our urge/instinct is to nest and protect our family. So even if you say now that you don´t care or don´t mind if he steps out…you will….

Ok, enough for today and sorry for my language and my somewhat over invested opinions, this just really annoyed me today and getting it out is the best way to forget about it. There are no journalistic thoughts in this article, it´s all strictly from the language of Tove. Have a lovely week-end!

Love,

Tove

Blonde Ambition

THE POP MODEL

This "Blonde Ambition" series by Jamie Morgan for POP Fall/Winter 2010 Edition couldn´t come in a more perfect time as I am nose deep in my Andy Warhol Popism book adventure. Every day, when I read my pages, I get to be a part of the 60s and the world of Andy. The writing is like a long conversation, and you as the reader are only nodding along of course. Read the book. See the photos. Have a lovely day.

Love,
Tove
